MOORPARK, Calif.—Ventura County authorities are battling a 78-acre brush fire near Moorpark but no homes are threatened and no injuries have been reported.
The fire began shortly before noon Friday along Highway 118.
County fire Capt. Ron Oatman told the Ventura County Star that the blaze is burning through rolling hills of grass and brush, with no structures in its immediate vicinity.
About 250 firefighters aided by bulldozers and water-dropping helicopters are battling the fire, which is about 40 percent contained.
Oatman says the weather has been mild and crews are getting a handle on the northern side of the blaze.
No injuries are reported and there's no word on what sparked the fire
