Mere Brother Ki Dulhan features Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar in a pivotal role

It’s one of the most anticipated films of the year. Not just because it pairs Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif together for the first time but also because it features Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar in a pivotal role.

Now that the first trailer of the film is out, it looks like Mere Brother Ki Dulhan will be a rollicking ride.  It opens up with Imran Khan, looking for a “dulhan” for his “brother”. The “brother” in question is Ali Zafar who, according to the promo, is raring to go and get married. And so enters Katrina Kaif, a wild, loud girl. Trouble hits when it becomes clear that both brothers fancy the same girl. In the promo, we see Ali Zafar share screen space with Katrina and Imran, singing and dancing his way through. From the trailer, it’s become increasingly clear that Imran Khan is the main protagonist in the film. However, Ali Zafar, it seems, has a pretty solid role to play out and that’s really not bad for an actor who has previously done just one film and that too, an offbeat one.

Now whether Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (set for a September 2011 release) works or not remains to be seen but from the vibrant, colourful and engaging trailer, it certainly looks interesting. For Ali Zafar, this role is nothing short of a coup, considering that this is a Yashraj production. That’s the film house they all want to work with. For  Shah Rukh Khan, it was a dream to be cast in Darr by Yash Chopra so many years ago. With this venture, Ali Zafar joins the elite, the creme de la creme of Bollywood.  And while Imran Khan may be the new big thing in Indian cinema after the thundering success of Delhi Belly, it is obvious from the rather groovy poster that Ali Zafar is very much a corner of this comedic love triangle. Here’s to our prince of pop and his new ride. We can hardly wait!
